Removal

Based on the settings of your F-Secure security product, it may: allow the file to run, block it from running, move it to the quarantine where it cannot spread or cause harm, or ask you to select an action.

A False Positive is when a file is incorrectly detected as harmful, usually because its code or behavior resembles known harmful programs. A False Positive will usually be fixed in a subsequent database update without any action needed on your part. If you wish, you may also:

  • Check for the latest database updates

First check if your F-Secure security program is using the latest updates, then try scanning the file again.

  • Submit a sample

After checking, if you still believe the file is incorrectly detected, you can submit a sample of it for re-analysis.

Note: If the file was moved to quarantine, you need to collect the file from quarantine before you can submit it.

  • Exclude a file from further scanning

If you are certain that the file is safe and want to continue using it, you can exclude it from further scanning by the F-Secure security product.

Note: You need administrative rights to change the settings.

Technical Details

About Security Cloud

F-Secure's Security Cloud is an online service that tracks the security reputation of common programs, files and websites. If a questionable program or file is found during a scan, your F-Secure security product will send a query to the Security Cloud to get its most recent reputation rating. The product will then use that information (and if needed, further analysis) to choose whether to block, quarantine or remove the program or file.

The MacKeeper program can either display pop-up ads during a web browsing session, or redirect users to unsolicited advertising content. Some users have also reported that the program causes performance issues for their devices.

The program may be installed as part of an application bundle. Users may be unaware that this program was installed if the application bundle did not clearly disclose the presence of additional programs during its own installation.

There have been reports that the MacKeeper program is difficult to uninstall, as users need to manually delete additional files that the program has saved on the machine, as well as uninstall extensions it has added to the browser, to completely remove the program.
